After our road trip through NZ we were officially ready for some sun and fun! Fiji did not disappoint. It was a special part of the trip because of family roots (my father is Fijian), and while we spent about half our time there as tourists, the other half was spent with family members who allowed us to experience Fiji as a local. And what an experience it was.

| The men who greeted us upon arrival |
I learned that about half the population of Fijians originated not in Fiji but in India. There has in the past been strain over relationships but so many years later, whether originally from India or Fiji everyone has come to accept each other all as Fijians and live together quite harmoniously. I got a history lesson from a taxi driver one day, it was awesome :)

These flowers are everywhere and are commonly
tucked behind your left ear if you are single,
and your right ear if you are in a relationship. |
The local Market
Family took us around to see the areas frequented by both locals and tourists.

Island Hopping
My mom, Zac and I took to the islands (Fiji is compromised of hundreds of tiny ones) for some fun. We walked all the way around this tiny island in less than 30 minutes.

Other than GIGANTIC spiders (too busy with my heart in my throat to take a picture), it was a super fun trip and a great way to relax after our NZ road trip :)
