Where Would YOU Go?

So I'm starting to think about my 5 week vacation, starting at the end of January. Because we want to see more than one country, I am thinking about this ahead of time because planning will have to be done in advance for sure - for one, I need to look into visas.

For two, I'm really excited!

So here is what's at the top of our list right now:

Thailand
Bali, Indonesia
Malaysia
Cambodia
Vietnam
Laos - we have a sponsored child here that we could potentially meet!

I don't feel a strong pull towards the Philippines or Taiwan so far, but those are options too. I came here wanting to go to Japan as well, but now that I have so many other options, I doubt we will go during our 5 weeks off.

Still want to see in China:

Honk Kong
Shanghai
Terracotta Warriers
Tibet

I want to do EVERYTHING!!!

Ideas, tips, suggestions? Where would you go??

    Are you planning on staying one place for 5 wks? If so, I would stay stick with your original plan of Japan cause it is boss. So much to see and do. I went there for two weeks and it wasn't enough time.

    If multiple places, then do a tour of a couple of the SE Asia countries you listed. There are English-language tours that go through all of those countries all of time and will sort out iteneries and lodging and stuff for you.

    Hmm, thanks guys. Kip, did you just stay in Tokyo or did you move around?

    I do think Japan would be awesome but I am thinking multiple countries would be pretty cool (I could do Japan in May during another school holiday). BTW Kip, come on SKYPE more often! :) xo

    Move around. Tokyo for a decent stint (like 4-5 days), but also stayed in Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, and Nara. There are good deals on getting national rail passes that give foreigners unlimited use of trains (including one class of bullet train!) so it is very easy to get out of Tokyo and float around.
