Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The capital of Cambodia is very nice, right by the water. We were here twice, before and after Siem Reap (we took the bus there and back and unlike some horror stories, found the experiences quite good! We had air con, movies, and wifi).  The King's father's cremation was at the same time as our visit, so the city was packed with people from all over the country coming to pay their respects.

THINGS WE DID:

We ate Dinner at the Waterfront

This is where we had my favourite Cambodian food. The dishes were delicious - except for one. Some Cambodian dishes have a really bitter taste that I was NOT a fan of.

Food pictures!

We visited the Palace, Pagodas, and Cremation Building for the King's Father

We spent a morning wandering around the Palace, Pagodas and Cremation Building. There were a group of young people hanging around and it turns out they were there to make sure everything was perfectly clean for the ceremony coming up. We had fun chatting with them and I immediately fell in love with their beautiful smiles and friendly attitudes.

You wouldn't know it from the picture, but this Monk
was super friendly and informative!

On our way to the park

Zac fools around. The Palace is in the background.

Zac's favourite part of parks are the swings

It was HOT! We stopped for a drink before making a run for our bus

Amusing ourselves in the tuk-tuk

Zac is cool

And by cool, I mean crazy

There were ox everywhere

One of my most FAVOURITE of the pictures I took on the trip. I took this from a tuk tuk. We exchanged only smiles.

We visited the Killing Fields

I debated on this, but after talking to Zac we both decided that we would like to go. I'm glad we did. We listened to an audio tour as we walked around and went into the Museum. Cambodia's history is tragic. While travelling I picked up a great book called Cambodia's Curse. It was enlightening and terrifying all at the same time.

There are still bone fragments in the ground

There was a section that displayed bones of the victims

Children were killed against this tree. Cambodians were
killed in the most atrocious ways, simply because it
was cheapest for the killers

Swam in the hotel pool and watched King's Father Cremation Festivities Below

Zac continues to practice his hand stands

There were intimidating guards all around the pool,
watching everyone down below.

Everyone wore white as a sign of respect for the King's father

We loved eating by the pool :)
